Repairs
Gear repair, service, tank inspections, and fills at Scuba Network Long Island
Gear repair & service overview
Your gear is life support. From tanks and fills to regulators, BCDs, and computers, Scuba Network provides repair and service to keep you diving safely and confidently. Please plan ahead—during the season we get real busy, and some services take time.

Tank inspections, testing, and cleaning
Annual visual inspection (VIP)
Tanks must be visually inspected annually. A visual inspection requires that the internal surfaces be observed and the neck and threads of the tank be checked for cracks. Aluminum cylinders are subjected to a Visual Plus™ eddy current test as well as a visual check.
Hydrostatic testing
Hydrostatic testing is done off-site and includes a visual inspection. Hydros are required by federal law every five years.
Before we haul your tank off, we’ll give it a preliminary visual check. If we feel the tank cannot pass, we will not allow it to go to hydro—this saves us time and you money.
Tank cleaning
Cleaning corrosion from the inside of tanks is a must for steel tanks and highly recommended for aluminum.
Gas fills (air, oxygen, nitrox blending)
Scuba Network is a full-service fill station capable of filling tanks to meet the demands of all divers.
- We utilize partial pressure blending to mix gas.
- We are able to custom blend any nitrox you desire.
- We always have banked oxygen and air.
We request that you allow us some time to mix gas for you so we can give your fill our utmost attention. We will do our best to fill walk-ins in a timely fashion, but we cannot guarantee five-minute fills in the middle of the season—please be patient with us.
Regulator service
Regulators are life support equipment and should be checked by a qualified technician annually. Scuba Network techs are certified by the manufacturers to work on all makes and models of regulators. We use top-of-the-line parts and procedures during the service of your gear.
BCD service
Your Buoyancy Compensator Device is life support at the surface—keeping you afloat—and keeping you in trim beneath the waves. Annual service is recommended to keep your gear in top shape.
Whether inflator hoses, dump valves, alternate air gear, or the bladder needs to be replaced or repaired, we service it to keep you diving safely.
Computer service
Computer service is typically simple:
- We check battery voltage, generally using the computer’s own power-up self test.
- If batteries are low, we will change the batteries and service the O-ring on the battery compartment.
Some higher-end units have potted batteries (the battery compartment is filled with a non-conductive gel to help ensure flooding will not damage the electronics). These must be sent out for service.
Typical service times
Service times are typically as follows:
- BCDs: 2 weeks
- Tanks VIP: 1 week
- VIP & Hydro: 2–3 weeks
- Regulator: Inspection only 1–2 weeks; service 3–5 weeks
